Welcome to the Kids Helpline 2012 Kokoda Trail Challenge. The Kokoda Track is one of the world's great treks, the last frontier that echoes the true heroic nature of the Australian Army's battles fought in 1942 as they defended Port Moresby at extraordinary odds from the advancing forces of the Japanese.

The relatively privileged Australian life is in no small way due to the heroism of the men and women who fought and died in foreign battlefields along the Kokoda Track. On this incredible 11 day trip, you will trek deep into the heart of Australia’s history. You will sleep in the jungle as you tour around the battlefields and gain true insights into the culture of the villages you visit. From here you can create your own individual fundraising page and to share your Kokoda journey with friends, family and co-workers and also ask for their support by emailing around the unique link of your webpage. Each donation is recorded on your page along with any message of support from your donors.

Kids Helpline

Kids Helpline is Australia’s only private and confidential, 24-hour telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged between 5 and 25 years.

Each week counsellors answer more than 5,500 calls and web contacts from children and young people - often regarding very serious issues:
• Every minute a child reaches out to Kids Helpline
• Seven times a day children contact us about child abuse
• Every day Kids Helpline refers a child to an emergency service to deal with a serious issue like child abuse or self harm.

Kids Helpline relies on community support to keep counsellors on the line.

Your support truly does save lives.

Generations of Australians have set themselves the goal of tracing this 96km historic journey through some of the most remote regions of PNG while sharing a part of Australia's history that will become an important part of their own life journey.

Today this track remains a classic as you retrace the steps, following trails deep within tropical rainforests, all the while experiencing the spirit of true Aussie mateship and feeling of accomplishment as you complete the Kokoda.

You are completing the trail not only for yourself, but for the 9000 young people who try to call Kids Helpline every week, often about serious issues like bullying, abuse, self-harm and even suicide. Kokoda will be your trip of a lifetime and support Australian children along the way!
